The Corporate Whistleblower Center is an offshoot of Americas Watchdog, a well-known organization that protects consumers’ rights by protecting the whistleblowers that keep checks on the big and mighty of America. They protect whistleblowers by “help[ing] them in every possible way,” which includes evaluating the whistle blower’s evidence, packaging the information and finding an appropriate, reliable law firm to bring their case to court. The organization is on a mission to expose wrongdoing in corporate America – and now online schools are their next target.
A Heated Campaign Against Online For-Profit Schools
They have recently published a press release that states, “We know online Universities, or Internet colleges frequently have aggressive marketing campaigns aimed at U.S. Military Veterans, or even active duty U.S. Military personal, and we don’t think very much of Internet universities, or online colleges… What we are talking about here is a scam, and we want insiders, or potential whistleblowers to step up to the plate, provided they have substantial proof, and provided the wrongdoing is in the millions of dollars.”
Online, for-profit schools tend to target veterans and the military men and women of America. It has been showcased on a wide array of media outlets; including the New York Times, Frontline, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and most recently in the Huffington Post, as well as other news centers. It is almost surprising the outrage has taken to long to foment into an organized campaign, but finally an organized campaign has come.
Online schools have, since their early inception, inspired distrust from the population at-large. Some of the suspicion is in fact undue, but there is indeed a seed of truth to many of the accusations; and one of the seeds of truth is the aggressive recruitment of military veterans by for-profit schools. A shocking 37 percent of all G.I. Bill benefit money is spent on for-profit online schools, however only 25 percent of veterans actually graduated from an online university. The large discrepancy is causing many to call foul on the way for-profit schools recruit veterans; and even accuse the online for-profit colleges of running degree scams – the latest being the Corporate Whistleblower Center.
The Corporate Whistle Blower’s campaign also opposes many other corporate malpractices, and has made a public appeal to anyone with information on the dishonest on-goings to come forward. They offer both a number and website for those with information. Go to their website here.
