The state of Texas is broken down into several special districts due to the size of the state, and facilities in both the urban and rural areas have been updated to try and increase performance and productivity. Students also have strict attendance requirements in order to complete their degree in addition to the predetermined graduation requirements.

High School Graduation Requirements in Texas

In order to complete a high school diploma from the state of Texas, students will need to complete the following requirements:

  • English/Language Arts (4 credits)
  • Mathematics (3 credits including Geometry and Algebra)
  • Science (2 credits including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
  • Social Studies (2.5 credits including World History, U.S. Government, and U.S. History)
  • Economics (.5 credits)
  • Physical Education (1.5 credits)
  • Health Education (.5 credits)
  • Speech Communication (.5 credits)
  • Technology Application s(1 credit)

Students will also need to complete and pass the TAKS exam in the areas of math, science, social studies, and English in order to complete their high school degree and graduate.
